Save Money Save Food with FoodSaver & A FreshSaver Giveaway (CAN 04/18)

The FoodSaver Saves Money & Saves Food

Buying in bulk saves money right? Well in theory yes it can.  But if you buy more than you can use and half of it goes to waste there really aren’t any savings there. Once upon a time we had a Costco membership.  You can find some great savings if you are prepared to buy mass quantities of things.  That’s not so bad for things like toilet paper or some shelf stable food that has a long life.  But when it comes to refrigerated or frozen food we were just finding it wasteful.  Sure we would buy freezer bags or containers and those are fine, for a little while.  In the end buying big just wasn’t working for us.  Even the best freezer bags only keep frozen food “fresh” for so long. We were just ending up with too many bags of sickly looking freezer burned food.

Years ago, back in my days of being a nanny, one of the families I worked for had a food vacuum system.  When it worked it was awesome.  When it didn’t I wanted to throw it out the window.  Honestly, it was like you had to stand in exactly the right spot, hold your breath, send positive vibes and hope for the best. It was the most finicky appliance I had ever encountered. It was not, however, a FoodSaver.  Of course I just assumed they were all the same and fussy machines that might or might not work.  So for years I resisted buying one.  Then one day I saw a FoodSaver for a really good price and finally broke down and bought one.  It was the best investment I had made in a long time!

I’ll admit the first time I tried it out I was anticipating the worst – based on my past experience with another brand.  But my fears were pointless.  The Foodsaver has worked flawlessly since the day I bought it.  The suction works great, the sealer works perfectly. It does exactly what it’s suppose to do.

The FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System keeps food fresh up to 5x longer* than ordinary storage methods like zipper bags, foil, plastic wrap and containers.

Air is the enemy of freshness and primary cause of freezer burn and dehydration in foods stored in the freezer, refrigerator and pantry. Ordinary storage methods trap air inside, causing food to lose flavour and nutrition over time. FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System remove and lock out air and moisture using specially-designed bags and canisters to prevent freezer burn.**

I love finally being able to save a few bucks on “family sized” deals at the grocery store knowing I won’t be just throwing half of the food out in a few months.  I also love being able to cook in bulk and have fresh homemade meals packed away in the freezer. It makes meal planning so much easier.

Last summer my family went to a berry farm and spent the day picking raspberries and Saskatoon berries.  I don’t know if you’ve ever had a Saskatoon pie but I have to tell you it might be the most awesome pie in the whole world.  And when I want to whip one up I just go to the freezer and pull out a bag of berries for a pie that tastes ever bit as good as if those berries had just come of the tree.

The FoodSaver is also great for pantry items too!  You can purchase containers and canisters that also work with many of the FoodSaver Systems to keep your shelf stable foods fresher longer.

The FoodSaver comes in a variety of models to suit most budgets and needs.  And they are so simple to use.  They are also great for more than just food!  Have you ever travelled and ended up with a leaky shampoo bottle in your luggage? Happens to me all the time.  I use zipper bags but I find they just don’t hold up to pressure changes on airplanes.  Now I vacuum seal my liquids with my FoodSaver and never have leaks in my luggage.

FreshSaver

FreshSaver

The FreshSaver  is another money and food saving gem from FoodSaver.  This handheld vacuum system is perfect for extending the freshness of refrigerated items like cheese or deli meats.  You can use the FreshSaver with specially made zipper bags that have a little spot on them that the vacuum attaches to and sucks out all of the air.  And if you prefer to use packaging that you can re-use you can also get a special Deli Tray that works with the FreshSaver.  The Deli Tray is dishwasher and microwave safe and the stack and nest for easy storage.

I’m loving this little unit.  We love cheese in our house and cheese can be pretty pricey. Having to throw out cheese because it’s dried out or gone mouldy is heartbreaking!

The Freshsaver is small, easy to store and rechargeable!

You can purchase any of the FoodSaver products online from their website or use their “find a retailer” function to find a store near you!
