The Calgary Tower – The Whole World at Your Feet

The Calgary Tower – The Whole World at Your Feet

I’ve travelled a lot to Calgary over the years.  I mean a lot.  I have always had friends and family that call Calgary home and I’ve never been one to turn down a trip there to visit them!  There are a lot of things that Calgary is known for – Stampede, the amazing zoo and, of course, the Calgary Tower.

The Calgary Tower is an iconic Canadian symbol that just about every one from coast to coast recognizes.  Since 1968 the Tower has graced the Calgary skyline – and what a skyline that is. One of the first Towers of its kind, if you are traveling to Calgary it’s a must see.  With a 360 degree panoramic view, you wont see another view of the city like it. And don’t forget that amazing view of the Rockies and surrounding foot hills.  It’s enough to take your breath away.

A few years ago a glass floor was installed on the observation deck.  The floor is 36 feet wide and gives you a bird’s eye view of 9th Avenue SW and Centre Street North below.  I’m not going to lie – an acrophobiac like me will not be standing on it (even though the glass can support the weight of two hippos)!  If you want to get a better idea of the incredible view head on over to the website and check out the cool panorama gallery where you can get a 360 degree sneak peek!

Ok, so there’s the amazing view but what else does the Tower have to offer?  I’m glad you asked.

Calgary’s Visitor Information Centre is located at the base of the Tower.

On the second level of the Tower is the delicious Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (if you want steak done right this is the place).

For a truly unique dining experience you can visit SKY 360 and enjoy your meal with a view – a rotating view!  But don’t worry it’s not too fast.  Located at 155 metres SKY 360 completes a full rotation in 45 minutes at lunch and 60 minutes at dinner.

Of course, like every great attraction, there has to be some shopping. You will find gift shops on both the base of the Tower and on the Observation Deck.

Whether it’s your first trip to Calgary or you’re a regular visitor (or even live there) a trip to the Calgary Tower is a must.  I’ve been several times but with the upgrades and improvements just over the past few years I’m excited to visit agin on my next trip to Calgary!  And of course I never need an excuse to hit downtown Calgary!

Have you had an opportunity to visit the Calgary Tower?  Did you or would stand on the glass floor?

  1. Not sure I could stand on that glass either… but it looks amazing!

  2. I've been to Calgary but it was years ago and I only saw the ski slopes and the airport. We travel all the time and Canada is always on our list of places to see. Looks like it's time to add Calgary and the Tower to the list. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Thanks for sharing! I have always wanted to travel to Canada. Thankfully, I live in Oregon so Canada is only a drive away. The next trick is just learning how to road trip successfully.
