When I became a new mom, I was bombarded with advice. Some of it was useful, some of it not so much, but I’m sure it was all given with good intentions. One of the messages that I heard over and over again was to always try and find some “me time”. You know as well as I do that is much, much easier said than done. Finding me time with a newborn or young child can seem next to impossible.
What I quickly learned was that I needed to readjust my thinking about that quality time to myself. I mean I spent close to 40 years without having the responsibilities of a parent. If I wanted to go get a manicure, I went to the spa and got one. If I wanted to hit the road, I just got in my car and drove. Me time was easy to find and easy to do. So I had to change my expectations a bit. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s just part of adjusting your priorities. In the beginning of life as a mom, going to the bathroom alone was me time. Having a bubble bath longer than 5 minutes was a luxury. As I got use to my new position and now as my little one gets older, I get to set that bar a little higher.
Even though things have gotten easier, life is still hectic. Now instead of night feedings and potty training, we have dance class and swimming lessons. But the truth is, I have always appreciated the little things in life. The simple, wholesome things. My bubble baths. A great cup of tea. Spending time in the garden. These are the things that make me feel at ease. Pampering yourself doesn’t need to be expensive or extravagant. In fact, I often find the simple, more natural things to be the most satisfying.
I recently discovered Garnier Whole Blends hair products and from the moment I opened the bottle of Honey Treasures shampoo and smelled it, I was in love. It has such a sweet, light and natural fragrance. It smells like it should be a cookie. And really it’s not surprising that it smells so fresh and natural because Garnier Whole Blends are made with natural extracts, are paraben free and use gentle sulfates. Each blend focuses on a unique hair action too, so whatever you’re looking to achieve, they’ve got a blend to suit your needs.
I have natural curly hair that is thick, coarse and takes a lot of abuse. I am constantly straightening it or using a big barreled iron to put in loose waves instead of my tighter curl. I need hair products that are good to my hair and in my case, gentle is good.
I was really impressed how well the Honey Treasures Whole Blends shampoo and conditioner worked with my curl. First of all, the conditioner is nice and thick and was able to cut through my knots and tangles easily, which is not true of a lot of conditioners I’ve tried. I often find with my hair that a lot of products either can’t manage my thick curly hair. The ones that do detangle and condition are so heavy and full of stuff that it doesn’t rinse away and my curl goes flat. As you can see, that didn’t happen here. I’ve got just a tiny amount of gel in my natural curl above to help keep the static away that always happens this time of year with the dry hair. The Whole Blends left my curls feeling soft and light but not out of control. And I can’t say enough about that awesome fragrance. I’ve been using the products for a while now and so far I’m still really loving them. My hair looks and feels healthy and I’m actually wearing my natural curl more than I have in quite some time.
